Drayton Valley worker dies after ride-on lawnmower goes into pond A 21-year-old man is dead after the ride-on lawnmower he was operating for the Town of Drayton Valley went into a pond Thursday morning. The man was airlifted to University hospital in Edmonton, where he was pronounced dead, Alberta Labour spokesperson Trent Bancarz said Friday. Drayton Valley RCMP responded to the scene, Cpl. Curtis Peters said. Mayor Glenn McLean said the town is “grief-struck by the news,” and the loss extends throughout the community. The town is also extending the availability of grief counselling and support services to its employees, McLean said. He said the community extends its deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of the deceased, who lived in the area. Alberta Occupational Health and Safety was investigating the incident, and McLean said the municipality is co-operating.
